January 4th, 2022 – Excerpt from Brandon Haynes’ interview with CBC Toronto, reacting to TPL ‘s announcement that, due to staffing shortages, TPL will be temporarily closing 44 library branches.

Chronic understaffing and precarious work has long been an issue at the Toronto Public Library. Covid-19 has turned a bad situation worse. With almost half of Toronto’s libraries now closed, the chickens have come home to roost.

Today is #EqualPayDay. Women still earn 32% less than men. The gap is even larger for Black women, Indigenous women, Arab women and women w disabilities.

We need strong public investment in community services to narrow the gap & increase women's economic liberation.
